Toby Alderweireld has described Saturday’s clash with AFC Bournemouth as a ‘must-win’ game.

With four points currently separating us and fifth-placed Arsenal going into the final two matchdays of the season, we head to the Vitality Stadium this weekend knowing that by collecting all three points, we will secure Champions League football for next season.

But for defender Toby, there is even more resting on the game than just our place in the top four, as he believes a good result on the south coast will also have a significant effect on our preparations for Wednesday night’s Champions League semi-final tie return leg with Ajax.

After suffering a 1-0 defeat in the first leg of the last four tie at our new home on Tuesday night, we now need go to Amsterdam next week and win in order to book a place in the final of Europe’s elite club competition.

“A good result at Bournemouth is a win-win in all kind of ways,” our number four explained. “It’s very important for us to secure a top four position and also a win will give us that good feeling ahead of the Champions League game on Wednesday.

“If you win, you get your place in the top four and you get the confidence ahead of the second leg of the semi-final, so I think it makes Bournemouth a must-win game.

“For them, it’s their last home game so they will be up for it. We only have to look at our own performance and a good away win will build confidence.

“A victory would give us a massive boost and with top four secured, our next objective would be to get to the Champions League final.”
